How to cook Ravioli Casserole

This is a very easy casserole dish that needs almost no-prep time. To make this recipe…

  1. Assemble the layers of your casserole in a well-greased baking dish.

  2. Cover with foil and let bake for about 50 minutes until hot and bubbly.

  3. Remove the foil, top with parmesan, and bake for another 10 minutes before serving.

First layer of Ravioli bake in casserole dish

After prepping our baking dish of choice, we can get started assembling this casserole. First, add a bit of sauce to the bottom before layering some of our ravioli. Those will get covered with a bit more sauce.

Sauce layered on ravioli

Now, our mozzarella- probably about 1/3 of it.

Cheese added to baked ravioli

Again, another layer of ravioli. If you're adding in any sort of veggies, it's best to layer it in here with the ravioli.

More frozen ravioli added

More sauce…

Our last layer of ravioli…

More beef ravioli added

Now, the rest of our sauce. Once you've used up the rest of your sauce, add about 1/4 cup of water to the empty jar, shake it up real quick, then pour it in. This is going to get the last bits of sauce in the jar and also add a bit of water to the casserole. That'll keep the ravioli from drying out, overcooking, and burning.

Last layer of pasta sauce added

The last layer! Top your Ravioli Casserole up with one last layer of mozzarella before covering with foil . Send into an awaiting 400-degree oven and let bake for about 50 minutes.

Mozzarella cheese added to lazy lasagna

After 50 minutes, we're going to remove the foil and top our casserole with our parmesan cheese. Leave the foil off and return the dish to the oven so it can bake for another 10 minutes. Once the top has browned up, pull the casserole from the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving up and enjoying!

Can I use fresh ravioli?

If you'd like to use homemade ravioli for this recipe, be our guest! We haven't tried it ourselves, but we imagine that the cook-time would be a bit shorter. You also may want to add a touch more water to the casserole- just to ensure the ravioli don't dry out and get overcooked .

Can I thaw the ravioli first?

Again, we don't see why you couldn't. The cook-time would, again, be a bit shorter here. That should be the only change you'd have to make though…

How to Make Ahead

It's easy to prep this Ravioli Casserole ahead of time. Once it's fully assembled, it's ready to sit overnight in the fridge- covered tightly in plastic wrap- before you want to bake it . If you're interested in more long-term storage, instead cover with foil and keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Add a few minutes to the bake time when cooking your frozen casserole when you decide to cook it.
